There is a fire burning in the big smoke. Break the glass, ring the alarm, Toronto’s own, The Darcys, have rubbed their personal struggles and persistent roots together igniting a flame that will elevate them to a whole new level.
Warring is the groups latest album set to be released September 17th on Arts & Crafts. This dream-gaze-rock-art album is a multi-faceted gem.
Falsetto vocals smoulder over desolate keys and fuming guitars. Jason Couse has harnessed his emotive slow-paced, whisper filtered howl and it sounds like rising up, but, it’s the synergy of Jason Couse (Vocals, Rhodes, Guitar), Wes Marskell (Drums) Mike Le Riche (Guitar, Organ, Vocals) and Dave Hurlow (Bass) that makes this album evocative and at times, danceable.
Tension packed “Hunting” features fuzzed-out guitars racing with snare-infused percussion while Couse juxtaposes the intensity with soft velvety vocals asking, “Who’s out there with you?”
“Lost Dogfights” is a real audible haunt that will have you quieting any room of intruding conversations. There’s a phenomenal cry on this track that persists and morphs into a distorted high-pitched roar, then drops the listener into piano guided solitude. Composed brilliantly and positioned perfectly, it’s the last track on the album, what an exit!
There is something strong, striking and intimate about Warring. You will most likely emerge from these sound waves asking yourself one question: “Where and when can I hear them live?”
