Wake Owl – ‘Wild Country’

Review by Shannon Reid

Memories are like snapshots, exposed and then praised upon their value. A snapshot is a state of an existence within a particular point in time. Wake Owl’s newest EP ‘Wild Country’ is a smooth transition from one point to another.  It’s an invitation to dismantle contrived poses through esoteric inflexions and presses firmly the idea that we were raised to intercept.

Singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron lights up our blind spots with truth and nature, his poetry lives between rich metaphors and rustic acoustic delivery, proving to be a rich contrast for the modern ears and mind. The album speaks of unplanned changes of environment and passing information – without ever breaking communication thanks to its simplicity. “Wild Country” explores humanity, pursuing awareness.  “Gold” feels like sitting in the back of a pick up while your great uncle drives, all the while chasing the sun on a late august evening. Oh, and from your view, honey bleached grass has grown up in open fields waiting to be braided and burned like sweet grass.
