Timber Timbre – ‘Creep On Creepin’ On’

Review by Andrew Sisk

The songs of Creep On Creepin’ On transition like scenes in a film, the flicker of projectors seemingly audible in the ambience. Like a story set in a black and white movie, the voice of Vincent Price narrates as you navigate through the musical plot of mystique, murder, and madness. Timber Timbre has laid claim to spooky folk and embraced the majesty of chimey pianos, dramatic violins, and Hitchcock-esque saxophones. Treble and reverb ring over trotting drums in a sparse background for Taylor Kirk’s unmistakable voice.

Ambient violin and feedback drones punctuate the more accessible tunes of the album. “Black water” and “Bad Ritual” capture the imagination with choruses that hook and melodies that draw curiosity into the slap-backed vocals. In the past, Timber Timbre have been referred to as “Swampy Blues influenced”, however, it appears their colours have darkened into a cinematic film noir. This much heralded album is one to be experienced.
